The experience aboard the cruise was particularly memorable, offering five-star dining every night. Here are some standout food experiences from the trip:

  • Sausages and Sauerkraut in Regensburg, a hearty and flavorful German dish.

Exploring Prague: Old Town and History

Ryan’s journey began in Prague, where he spent three days exploring the beautiful city. Staying in the Old Town Jewish Quarter, he was perfectly situated to explore the city’s charm on foot. One of the highlights was the visit to the Prague Castle, a monumental complex with centuries of history. They also took a 45-minute boat ride along the Vltava River, giving them a new perspective of the city’s stunning architecture.

Budapest: A Walk Through History

After six and a half hours by train, Ryan and his group arrived in Budapest, where they stayed for two nights at the Mercure City Center. Located just one block from the river, it provided a great base to explore the city. Their visit included a walking tour of the historic city, including the Parliament Building, and they learned about the World War II history of Budapest.

A visit to the Central Market Hall gave them a taste of local life and offered a chance to shop for souvenirs and try local delicacies. Budapest’s Jewish Synagogue is the largest in Europe, and it was another significant stop on their tour.

AMA Waterways Cruise: A Relaxing Way to Explore

After Budapest, it was time to board the AMA Sonata, where Ryan spent the next seven days sailing down the Danube River. The cruise was a relaxing way to see Bratislava, Vienna, Dürnstein, Melk, and more. With a French balcony stateroom on board, Ryan enjoyed breathtaking views of the river and its surroundings. The cruise included all meals and drinks at lunch and dinner, with a sip and savor cocktail hour before dinner, making for a perfect way to unwind after a day of excursions.

Highlights of the Cruise:

  • Bratislava: The capital of Slovakia, offering a charming old town that’s easily walkable from the port.

  • Vienna: Known for its imperial architecture, the city’s beauty and grandeur were explored during a walking tour of the main city center.

  • Dürnstein and Melk: Dürnstein is a small town in the Wachau Valley known for its wine tasting. In Melk, Ryan visited the stunning Benedictine Abbey, offering amazing views of the surrounding area.

  • Linz and Salzburg: A day trip to Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and the filming location for The Sound of Music, gave Ryan a chance to dive into the city’s rich history and enjoy local food.
