There are only a few cities on the whole planet that have as much history as Athens. With the great Parthenon and the sprawling remains of the Agora, it was in Athens that the greats like Socrates and Plato, Euripides and Pericles would have stood debating and discussing the issues of the day.
Democracy was born here in the late 6th century, and it has been the home of all great classical tragedy and comedy: Oedipus Rex; The Antigone; The Phoenician Women.
Now the ancient city of Athens is recognized by more modern means, with their subways, clean streets, well-manicured parks, remarkable freeways, and super friendly people.
It’s a city that boasts striking historical monuments, but also of stunning modern architecture. From the pillars of the Acropolis to the Temple of Zeus, places to visit in Athens, Greece are countless.
Greece is famous for its fantastic food, and coming to Athens is a wonderful opportunity to get an authentic taste of all of Greece’s famous bites. Consider booking a food tour that will take you away from large, noisy, and touristy restaurants, to the places where local Greeks eat. Op!

What would a visit to Greece be without going to the Acropolis to see the Parthenon? Even if you’re not a history buff, you’ll still know the Parthenon is one of the most famous and recognizable monuments in the world and the symbol of Greece.
Located on the Acropolis, a hill overlooking the city of Athens the Parthenon of today is what is left of the magnificent temple to the Greek goddess Athena, the patron of the City of Athens.
The temple was completed in 438 BC, and its architectural style with huge Doric pillars has had a huge influence on significant architectural structures all over the world ever since.
The best time to go up there is the late winter or spring when you can see this giant stone mountain overcome by grass and wildflowers which seem to burst from every crack. It is still surprisingly green even in December, January, and February.
They can’t talk about the best places to visit in Greece without a mention of Crete. The largest island in Greece, and the fifth largest one in the Mediterranean Sea, it’s a spacious land of contrasting landscapes – there are coastlines as far as the eye can see, rolling mountains, lush foliage, and rocky terrains. There are bustling metropolises and also quiet, quaint little villages, historical museums and national parks.
You can take it all in on a driving tour, hike through Europe’s longest gorge and then trek to the cave where Zeus was born before cycling through orchards on the Lasithi Plateau. Don’t forget to plant your footprints on one of the sandy beaches, and then boat, kayak or snorkel in the crystal-clear waters. The Cretan diet is also one of the healthiest in the world, and foodies will be in heaven tasting local meats, cheeses, olive oils, and of course, wine.

If you’re looking for a region that has it all, look no further than Santorini. It’s actually a group of islands consisting of Thíra, Thirassiá, Asproníssi, Palea and Nea Kaméni in the southernmost part of Cyclades. And the views? Second to none.
There’s a spectacular rugged landscape with multicolored cliffs that drop 300 feet almost vertically into the deep blue sea.
Explore ancient ruins that date back 4,000 years or serene vineyards that produce world-class wines. Relax on spectacular beaches with red sand where smooth lava pebbles come in a rainbow of colors, picturesque villages, and the legend of Atlantis lost at the bottom of the sea.
Located on Kefalonia Island in the Ionian Sea about 30 km north of the town of Argostoli, Myrtos Beach is one of the most beautiful and the most photographed beaches in Greece. What greets you is a wide stretch of fine white sand and smooth pebbles, all nestled close to huge hills covered by dense Mediterranean vegetation that plunge into the azure sea. And there’s no better place for a sunset.
The beach is often busy with visitors who do not mind the steep walk down the hill and want to appreciate the magnificent views you won’t find anywhere else on the planet.
Easily accessible by the road, most of the beach is well-equipped with lounge chairs and umbrellas, and there’s even a little bar that offers refreshments. For those looking to get away from the crowds, there is a small part of the beach that remains completely unspoiled.
